Afghan Deputy Prime Minister for Economic
Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov in
Baku to discuss the development of the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor.
According to Azerbaijani press reports,
Prime Minister Asadov expressed readiness to expand trade partnership with
Afghanistan.
"The Lapis Lazuli corridor is
considered the most promising alternative route for Afghanistan's foreign
trade. The countries along this route are large markets for Afghan staple goods
- dried fruits, medicinal plants and minerals," the Azerbaijani side said
in a statement.
The Lazuli Corridor is a trade and transport route that starts from the ports of Akina and Torgund, reaches the port of Turkmenbash in Turkmenistan, crosses the Caspian Sea to the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, passes through Tbilisi and Georgia, continues into Turkey, and finally connects to Europe.
