According to Azerbaijan Railways [ADY], via the Middle Corridor, container block trains reach European destinations in 18-25 days.

“This advantage contributes to the growth of cargo, strengthens the transit potential of the corridor countries and increases the attractiveness of investments.”

ADY noted that before the Middle Corridor was operational, cargo flows between China and Europe mainly depended on sea routes through the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea, with transit times ranging from 35 to 45 days.

According to ADY, the Port of Baku, along with the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway and TRIPP, plays a crucial role in increasing the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor.

For reference, the Middle East Corridor (TITR) is a transport and trade route connecting Asia with Europe and is an alternative to the traditional northern and southern corridors.

The route starts in China, passes through the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, crosses the Caspian Sea through Azerbaijan and continues through Georgia and Turkey before reaching Europe. This land route bypasses longer sea routes and provides a direct connection between East Asia, including China, and Europe.
