According to ABC.AZ, the international
rating agency S&P Global Ratings stated that the modernization project of
the main Georgian railway has increased the capacity from 27 million tons per
year to approximately 48 million tons. The impact of the project began in
September 2025 and the full effect is expected to begin in 2026.
S&P emphasizes that the completion of
the testing phase on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line in 2025, as well as the
improvement of customs clearance mechanisms, will contribute to the restoration
of transportation. As a result of these changes, Azerbaijan and Turkey will be
able to fully use the services of Georgian railways.
According to the report, the strategic and marketing activities of Georgian Railways, as well as the modernization of infrastructure supported by the state, will lay the foundation for further restoration of transport flows in the medium and long term.
