Within the framework of the international
tender for the Divrig-Kars-Georgian Border Railway Line
Reconstruction-Modernization Project, Turkey has attracted 660 thousand dollars
for financing from the World Bank, while the co-financiers will be the Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Islamic Development Bank.
The announcement was made by the
Infrastructure Investments Directorate of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and
Infrastructure.
The project is called "Eastern Turkey
Middle Corridor Railway Development" and it consists of two components.
The first is the
reconstruction-modernization of the Divrig-Kars-Georgian Border Railway Line,
for which approximately 1.339.2 billion dollars will be spent. The second
component is project management, which will be financed with approximately $5.5
million.
Procurement of contracts financed by the
World Bank will be carried out in accordance with the Bank’s procurement
regulations for IPF borrowers and will be open to all qualified companies and
individuals, as defined in the said regulations.
For reference: In January, the Turkish government adopted the “Transport and Logistics Master Plan 2053 – U2053”, the aim of which is to transform the country into a “logistics base in the Middle Corridor”. The government is considering several investment projects focused on the railway infrastructure of the “Middle Corridor”, including the modernization of the Divrig-Kars-Georgian border railway, which should transform the corridor into an attractive transport artery in the long term. Another major project is the rehabilitation and modernization of the railway traffic on the Sultan Selim Yavuz Bridge in Istanbul.
