The European Union is determined to
strengthen cooperation with Armenia. This was stated by the European
Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, in an exclusive
interview with Armenpress.
“My first visit to Armenia, and I am sure
not the last, comes ahead of the first Armenia-EU summit scheduled for May
2026. It underlines the EU’s determination to strengthen its engagement with
Armenia and reaffirms our commitment to promoting peace, stability and regional
cooperation in the South Caucasus. One of its important components is the
progress made in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The EU
stands ready to continue supporting these efforts, including by investing in
regional ties, in line with Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative,” said
Brunner.
Cooperation is also growing in practical
economic areas. The EU and Armenia are implementing a €270 million Stability
and Growth Programme, which supports reforms and contributes to the
sustainability of Armenia’s economy and Strengthening.
“Within the framework of the Global Gateway Initiative, we are also exploring additional investment opportunities in the areas of regional connectivity, economic diversification, digital and green transformations, energy security and climate cooperation. At the same time, we are working to expand Armenia’s trade opportunities and help Armenian businesses better benefit from access to the EU market of around 450 million consumers. This could open up new opportunities for Armenian exports, investments and economic growth,” the European Commissioner stressed.
