The EU said it is ready to support its
member states and partner countries in developing a new cooperation framework
to move forward with the “Connectivity Agenda”. The new proposal will be
presented for discussion and further work at the Trans-Caspian Transport
Corridor Investors and Connectivity Forum in Tashkent on 27 November.
The statement followed the meeting of the
Interregional Security and Cohesion Ministerial in Luxembourg on 20 October,
which brought together representatives of EU member states, as well as Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, Tajikistan,
Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The meeting was co-chaired by European
Commission Vice-President Kaia Kallas, Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos
and Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikkela.
The discussions focused on security,
stability and sustainability in the Black Sea region, with a focus on
inter-regional connectivity with Central Asia. Participants discussed ways to
strengthen links between Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia in the
context of a changing geopolitical environment.
In the field of transport, the talks highlighted the strengthening of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and the launch of a dialogue to enhance links between the EU, the Black Sea countries, Turkey, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. The co-chairs concluded that the future proposal will build on existing platforms and involve international financial institutions, private investors and partners.
