Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable
Development Tamar Ioseliani, together with Lasha Abashidze, Director General of
JSC Georgian Railways, met with Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan
Railways, during which cooperation between the two countries in the field of
railway transportation was discussed.
As noted at the meeting, Georgia and
Azerbaijan are successfully cooperating in the direction of increasing the
competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and attracting additional cargo.
Special emphasis was placed on the official
launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the opportunities for increasing
cargo turnover through it. It was noted that Georgian Railways will exclusively
carry out freight transportation on the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway line.
The meeting emphasized that the agreement
between the Georgian and Azerbaijani railways is an important fact for the
country's railway infrastructure and regional economic cooperation, as it will
increase competitiveness and strengthen Georgia's transit and logistics
capabilities.
After the meeting, Lasha Abashidze, General Director of JSC Georgian Railways, together with Levan Kankava and Mikael Abasov, General Directors of BTKI Railways LLC, signed an agreement, according to which BTKI Railways will provide the Georgian Railways with the exclusive right to carry out transportation on this section.
