Ferry traffic between Georgia and Ukraine resumed

Georgia and Ukraine have resumed ferry traffic. The ferry made two trips from the port of Chernomorsk to the port of Batumi. This is the first trip since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

This was stated by Timofey Murakhovsky, Director of Commerce and Logistics of Ukrzaliznytsia. The information was disseminated by Interfax Ukraine.

“On March 18 and 26, two trips were made from the port of Chernomorsk to the port of Batumi, and the third trip is planned for next week,” he said.

According to him, the first trip in March was carried out in a mode of information silence. Murakhovsky called on business to be more actively involved in this area.

He noted that the project is being implemented with the participation of the shipping company Ukrferry (Odessa) and a subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia UZ Cargo Poland (Warsaw).

The maritime connection between Ukraine and Georgia was terminated in February 2022.

According to UZ Cargo Poland, active work is underway to restore ferry connections with Georgia, which will allow transporting cargo from China to European countries, transiting through the territory of Ukraine.

More specifically, Chinese cargo will be transported by container trains from the Caspian ports to Baku, then it will be transported from Poti to the port of Odessa, from where the cargo will be sent to Europe.
