The Armenian government has made a decision
that will allow for the completion of the “Iran-Armenia 400 kV Overhead Power
Line and Related Substation Construction” program in the shortest possible
time, which will mitigate the further increase in electricity tariffs for end
users.
According to “Armenpress”, the decision was
made at a regular meeting of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, held on
August 14. Within the framework of the Energy System Development Program No.
1167 of the State Budget of the Republic of Armenia for 2025, within the
framework of the 42012 measure “Double extension of the design life of the 2nd
power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant”, 10,029,980.0 thousand drams
are allocated, and for the year 13,529,980.0 thousand drams. However, due to the
extension of the tender processes for the implementation of the measure, it is
possible to allocate 828,000.0 thousand drams from the planned funds to the
company "High Voltage Electric Networks" for the first nine months of
2025, and 1,035,000.0 thousand drams for the year.
The latter was allocated for the period 2026-2028 for the use of funds in the amount of 1,035,000.0 thousand drams within the framework of the measure. With the adoption of the decision, the project will be completed in the shortest possible time, the bilateral electricity flows between Armenia and Iran will increase from 350 MW to 1,200 MW, the level of security, reliability and stability of the Armenian energy system will increase, and the opportunity will be created to fully utilize the capacity of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline within the framework of the "Gas for Electricity" program.
