Japan hosts Central Asian summit for first time in history

For the first time in history, Japan is hosting a Central Asian summit, which will be attended by the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The event is being held in Tokyo and will last for two days. According to the administration of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the goal of the forum is to strengthen relations with the members of the Silk Road and strengthen Japan's position in the strategically important project. With this step, official Tokyo is trying to compete with Russia and China.

According to the media, a joint event will be held within the framework of the summit, as well as one-on-one meetings between the Japanese Prime Minister and the leaders of the Central Asian countries, during which the parties will discuss deepening cooperation. In parallel, a business forum is planned, where large companies from six countries will discuss investment opportunities, expanding trade, and financing infrastructure projects. The topic of discussion will also be digital technologies, in which Japan is one of the leading countries in the world.

According to current information, Kazakhstan alone intends to sign more than 40 agreements, the total volume of which will be $3.7 billion and will include energy, renewable energy, digital technologies, mineral extraction, and the transport industry. Large Japanese companies such as Marubeni, Toshiba, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will be involved in the process.

Official Tokyo expects to be able to start long-term partnerships with the Central Asian states and establish new supply lines. It is noteworthy that the talks will not touch on security issues.
