Georgia’s Airspace

Azerbaijan-Georgia Railway Border Crossing Process to Be Expedited

The railway administrations of Azerbaijan and Georgia are working to expedite international rail transport, including by simplifying border procedures and strengthening digital integration.

A key topic of the working meeting was the use of digital systems and the real-time exchange of information regarding trains and cargo. Under the agreement, the parties decided that Azerbaijan Railways' electric trains operating on the Boyuk-Kesik–Tbilisi–Boyuk-Kesik route will travel without the train consist being broken up. Additionally, the duplication of technical inspections for railcars will be eliminated. According to the new scheme, inspections for trains traveling from Azerbaijan to Georgia will take place only at the Boyuk-Kesik station, while inspections for the return journey will be conducted at the Tbilisi railway hub.

Caspian Sea Fiber-Optic Cable

A significant stage in the construction of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic communication line along the Caspian seabed has been completed: the underwater cable laid along the Aktau–Sumgayit route has reached the coast of Kazakhstan.

The project is being implemented by Kazakhtelecom JSC and AzerTelecom International. The new backbone network will link the digital infrastructures of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, creating a direct, high-speed data transmission channel between Asia and Europe. According to the agency, this will improve the reliability of the international connection and boost the transit potential of both countries. The completion of land-based infrastructure construction, as well as system testing and commissioning, is scheduled for the autumn of this year.

The project's construction and subsequent operation are managed by CaspiLink B.V., a joint venture between Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom International. The project is fully funded by the companies' own resources and does not involve state budget funding. europetime.eu

In the first seven months of 2026, APM Terminals Poti handled a total of 404,760 TEU containers, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Kazakhstan Invests $35 Billion to Accelerate China-Europe Transit Route

Over the past seven years, approximately $35 billion has been invested in transport infrastructure in Kazakhstan. These investments cover railways, roads, ports, airports, and digital logistics.

Kazakhstan currently handles about 83% of overland freight transport between China and Europe. At present, container delivery from Dostyk to Georgia’s Black Sea ports takes approximately 11–13 days. gbc.ge
