Transport
and logistics is becoming an increasingly growing sector of the Georgian
economy. During 2021, the total income of companies engaged in this activity
reached 7 billion GEL, which is 1.2 billion GEL more than the previous year.
According
to official data, this field employed more than 62 thousand people in the
country, and their total remuneration exceeded 1 billion GEL.
Among
the companies engaged in the provision of transport services, the largest is
"Georgian Railways", whose income in 2021 has increased to 548
million GEL. After several years of losses, in 2021, the railway made a net
profit of 53 million GEL. In total, the railway employs more than 12,000 people.
The
second largest player in the field of logistics is Poti port operator APM
Terminals, whose revenue in 2021 was 187 million GEL, and the net profit
exceeded 83 million GEL.
The
largest Georgian logistics company is the Pace Group, which manages several
berths in the Port of Poti. The company mainly provides services for incoming
transit cargoes from Central Asia. According to the financial report, in 2021
the income of the Pace group reached 116 million GEL.
Another
large company engaged in the provision of logistics services is the
international container line MSC, which in 2021 had an income of 86 million GEL
in Georgia.
