Switzerland has tightened sanctions against
the Russian Federation. In the wake of the 17th package of sanctions by the
European Union, the politically neutral state has imposed new restrictions
against 89 Russian companies and 17 individuals.
As is known, Switzerland has also
blacklisted 189 naval vessels and tankers that Russia used as part of its
“shadow fleet” to evade sanctions.
In addition, Switzerland has expanded the
list of products and services whose purchase and sale in Russia has been
restricted.
It should be noted that Switzerland has been imposing sanctions on Russia since 2022, which is an unusual event in its essence, because, as a rule, Switzerland maintains neutrality in global issues, although the Russia-Ukraine war is an exception and in this case the country has a clear position.
