The Kars ~ Igdir ~ Dilucu Railway Line will be Laid in Two Days

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilujü railway line, which will be an important part of the Zangezur Corridor, will be held on Friday, August 22, adding: “With the commissioning of the Zangezur Corridor, the east-west line stretching from Beijing to London will operate more efficiently.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu clearly stated that the line will strengthen freight and passenger transportation in eastern Turkey, stating that it will increase both Turkey’s logistical capabilities and strengthen the country’s geostrategic position as an island of security on trade routes to Asia.

Uraloğlu also noted that external financing of 2.4 billion euros was secured for the project as a result of studies conducted by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and continued: “The 224-kilometer double-track line of the Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilujü railway will be electrified and signalized. The annual capacity of the line will be 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of freight. The project includes five tunnels, 19 cut-and-cover tunnels, three viaducts, 10 bridges, 144 underpasses, 27 overpasses and 480 culverts.”

Uraloğlu emphasized that the newly laid line is a key component of the Zangezur Corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan, and said: “This line will provide a new, uninterrupted rail connection between Turkey and Azerbaijan. At the same time, the production potential of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia will reach foreign markets faster and the tourism potential of the Mediterranean will increase. In addition, by strengthening the Trans-Caspian and North-South corridors, this line will strengthen the supply and logistics networks of Eurasia, making Turkey a center of regional cooperation. This will strengthen economic cooperation in the South Caucasus. With the launch of the Zangezur Corridor, the East-West line from Beijing to London will operate more efficiently.
