
Georgian Deputy Ministers of Economy and
Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and Inga Pkhaladze met with the
Regional Director of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for Central
Asia, North Africa, Europe and Eurasia, Carl Kress.
According to the Ministry, the meeting
focused on the Middle Corridor, the ongoing and planned projects of the
Georgian government for its development, as well as the possibilities of
finding technical support from the American agency in this process.
"The importance of developing regional
initiatives such as CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program),
TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia Transport Corridor), Trans-European Transport
Network, etc. was emphasized. The Georgian side focused on projects of regional
importance, the full implementation of which will increase the development of
our country as a transport hub.
Among such projects were named the Anaklia
deep-sea port, the modernization of the Georgian railway, the completion of the
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the full implementation of the East-West highway,
the construction of a new Tbilisi international airport, etc.
The meeting also focused on projects that
enhance Georgia's function as a transit hub in various sectors, including the
Black Sea submarine cable project, which will connect Georgia to the EU energy
market. will connect.
The US Trade and Development Agency has
expressed interest in projects aimed at further developing the Middle
Corridor," the ministry said in a statement.
In addition to Georgia, the agency's working visit will include exploring opportunities in Armenia and Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be aimed at developing transport corridors.
