We can transfer part of the cargo to the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route, where the volumes are quite large

Kairos Logistics General Director Mikheil Namadov states that the Kars-Akhalkalaki route may become an alternative to the Northern Corridor and create serious competition in the region.

“Today, China is actively using the Northern Corridor, which involves transporting cargo by rail to Belarus and Lithuania, where the wheels of the wagons are replaced, after which the cargo continues its movement. The main distribution center is located in Germany, namely in Duisburg.

One of the most important alternatives to this route will, of course, be the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (Akhalkalaki) direction, which will compete quite strongly with the existing corridors, especially in the direction of Southern and Eastern Europe. I think we can transfer part of the cargo to this route, where the volumes are quite large.

Even today, for example, the cost of transporting a container from China by sea is almost the same as transporting it by rail to Georgia. That is why the future belongs to this direction. We see that oil prices are quite unstable and the current conflicts have a very big impact on it. Railway The cost, as you know, depends on electricity, which makes it much more stable.

This project has quite a lot of potential. Although it is difficult to make accurate forecasts today, it will bring great wealth to the entire region and be a prerequisite for increasing the efficiency of logistics,” said Namadov.

According to him, Georgia can not only provide its own export-import services, but also provide logistics services to third countries. According to him, there are already examples in the region, such as Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which are also working on the transportation of cargo from third countries using their own infrastructure. According to Namadov, Georgia can realize significant potential in this direction, which will become an additional source of income for the country and strengthen its role in the international logistics market.

“If we take the current economic balance in international logistics, we pay more for services than we provide ourselves. With this approach, on the contrary, we can increase our share. Moreover, given our location and current geopolitical relevance, for small countries this service can become one of the most important sources of export, just like tourism, the IT sector, development, and others,” noted the General Director of Kairos Logistics.
