The director of the Investment Promotion
Agency of Uzbekistan, Mansurjon Rasulev, states that the Uzbek government is
actively working with Georgia to explore investment opportunities in logistics
infrastructure.
“If we talk about what Uzbek business and
Uzbekistan as a country are interested in Georgia, one of the main aspects that
should be emphasized is logistics. Georgia is part of the Middle Corridor, your
country is a gateway to the Black Sea, from where you can, for example, go to
Bulgarian ports and then enter the European market. So, it is crucial for
Uzbekistan to be well integrated with the Georgian transport and logistics
system. It is no coincidence that the Uzbek government is actively working with
the Georgian government in this direction. Business is also actively exploring
investment opportunities in logistics infrastructure, warehouses, ports,
railway infrastructure. There is a lot that still needs to be explored in this
area. If you look at the map and see which countries the Middle Corridor passes
through, you will see that we have the Caspian Sea. And this means that you
need ferries that can transport goods They will be transferred from Kazakhstan
to Azerbaijan.
As I understand it from industry experts, this is the direction where the most capacity needs to be increased. The same needs to be done in Georgian ports, because this is essentially a gateway for the region’s goods that are transported to Turkey from Georgia or through the Black Sea to the rest of the world. So, increasing this capacity in parallel with increasing the capacity of the Caspian Sea, which the governments of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are actively working on, is crucial. Uzbekistan is actively involved in the implementation of this project, is part of the Karek and Middle Corridor initiatives, and is actively lobbying this project with international financial institutions. One of the international financial institutions that is now actively investing capital in this project is the European Investment Bank, because Europe also has a great interest in the Middle Corridor,” notes Mansurjon Rasulev.
