The Secretary General of TRACECA called the
Zangezur Corridor an important project and noted that work is actively
continuing on the 110-kilometer Horadiz-Agbend railway, of which 67 kilometers
have been completed.
“I am confident that the opening of the
“Zangezur Corridor”, which will connect Europe with Asia and, most importantly,
the main part of Azerbaijan with [its] Nakhichevan [enclave], will
significantly increase the status of Azerbaijan as a regional transport hub. I
would like to note that the Zangezur corridor is a very important route for
TRACECA,” said Asset Asavbayev.
“All these developments ensure the
diversification of transport routes. In our opinion, the early opening of
transport communications will increase the throughput of the region and allow
countries to benefit from attracting certain transit cargoes. The issues of
opening this corridor arise from the political framework. It is necessary to
resolve issues related to the throughput of the corridor, checkpoints, the
volume of necessary investments and a number of other aspects that are
important for the stable functioning of the “Zangezur corridor,” the Secretary
General said.
