In the era of globalization, a country's economic strength
and influence are often measured not only by its domestic resources and the
size of its economy, but also by how open the global market is to it.
In this direction, a free trade agreement (FTA) is a key
instrument of modern economic diplomacy, allowing countries involved in the
deal to eliminate customs tariffs, reduce bureaucratic barriers, and open the
way for their businesses to new markets.
The ranking below reflects the states that use this
instrument most effectively and lead in the number of FTAs:
1. European Union
Number of partners: 78
2. United Kingdom
Number of partners: 70
3. Chile
Number of partners: 65
4. Singapore
Number of partners: 61
5. South Korea
Number of partners: 59
For comparison, Georgia has free trade agreements with 46 countries and one special administrative region, Hong Kong. It is worth noting that almost half of these agreements are with EU member states; 9 agreements are signed with CIS countries; we also have an FTA with China, which is the largest manufacturing country on the planet.
